Kids & Teen Hip Hop Classes in Wheat Ridge

JC Dance & Company teaches kids and teen hip hop in Wheat Ridge, with age-appropriate music and moves for dancers roughly ages 4 through 16. Hip hop is high energy and quick to feel good at, which makes it a favorite for first-time dancers and for kids who want to move without a lot of rules. Classes are upbeat and beginners are always welcome.

The hip hop classes we offer

Here are the hip hop classes, with the day, time, and ages. The full weekly grid is on the class schedule.

  • Hippity Hop & Tappity Tap, Thursdays 4:00 to 4:45pm, ages 4 to 6 (hip hop and tap for little movers)

  • Youth Jazz/Hip Hop, Mondays 6:00 to 7:00pm, ages 7 to 10

  • Youth Hip Hop & Tumble, Saturdays 10:30 to 11:30am, ages 7 to 10

  • Adult Hip Hop, Thursdays 7:00 to 8:00pm (see the adult classes page)

Teen dancers who want a performance edge often pair hip hop with our poms and dance team prep.

What a hip hop class looks like

A hip hop class starts with a warm-up that doubles as a chance to get loud and shake off the day. From there the teacher teaches a short combination, breaking it down count by count so nobody gets lost, then builds it up to music. The younger classes mix in games and tumbling to keep the energy high. The older classes spend more time on clean movement, timing, and style. Over a session, the short combinations add up into longer routines, so dancers get the satisfaction of running a full piece to a song they know. Music is chosen to be age-appropriate, so parents do not have to worry about the lyrics.

Is this right for my child?

Hip hop works for almost any kid who likes music and does not want to sit still. Ages 4 to 6 do best in Hippity Hop, which folds in tap and a little tumbling. Ages 7 to 10 have two options, one on Monday evening and one on Saturday morning, so you can pick what fits your week. No experience is needed. For a shy child, hip hop is often the style that pulls them out, because it feels more like play than a lesson.

What to wear and bring

Comfortable clothes your child can move in, plus clean sneakers they can jump in. Flat-soled athletic shoes work best. Hair pulled back helps. Bring a water bottle. No special dance shoes are needed for hip hop, which makes it an easy style to try first.

Questions parents ask

Is the music appropriate for kids?

Yes. We choose clean, age-appropriate music for the kids and teen classes.

Does my child need experience?

No. Every hip hop class assumes dancers are starting fresh, and the teacher breaks the moves down slowly.

What shoes should they wear?

Clean, flat-soled sneakers they can jump and pivot in. No special dance shoes are needed.

My kid is shy. Will hip hop work?

Often, yes. Hip hop tends to feel like play, and the group energy helps shy kids loosen up. Start with a free trial and see how they do.

Do you have a class for teens?

The hip hop classes on the schedule are for youth (ages 7 to 10) and adults. For teens, we recommend a class for each dancer individually, which for ages 11 to 16 is usually Poms/Jazz or Teen Contemporary. Book a free trial and we will place your teen in the class that fits.
